State ODP Program (2020-2021)
Girls & Boys Coaching Staff – Announcements
Head Coach – Marco Mesrobian
Making his debut on our Nevada ODP coaching staff for the 2020-2021 cycle is Marco Mesrobian. We are delighted to welcome this very experienced coach to our staff and are excited that he will be working with and overseeing the 2009 Girls age group. Marco has coached many different age groups over the last several years, on both the Girls and the Boys side, and it’s this flexibility and versatility that provides a tremendous amount of value to our program. But it’s more than the coaching experience and National C coaching license that completes Marco as a coach, it’s his playing background as well. Marco was a very high-level player, who played Division 1 college soccer at Cal State Fullerton and also had opportunities to play professionally internationally in Europe, all of which have provided so much more to his coaching career. When you put it all together, you have a coach who is more than ready and prepared to be a big part of our staff moving forward.
Assistant Coach – David Ostler
New to our staff this cycle, we look forward to having David work with our 2009 Girls age group. David has enjoyed an almost two-decade run of coaching a variety of levels here in Las Vegas. He has been a mainstay at El Dorado High School, having coached at the school since 2002, with both the Girls and Boys Varsity teams during those 18 years, while achieving a great deal of success with both programs. David has also coached at the youth/club level since 2012, having coached various Girls and Boys teams for all age groups. It is that versatility and experience that makes this National D license coach a valued addition to our staff.
Head Coach – Pedram Mahinpey
Back for his second year on our coaching staff, Pedram returns to help this age group compete for another West Region ODP championship coming up in January 2021. This past 2019-2020 cycle, the stars aligned for this age group and with Pedram at the helm, the team enjoyed a magical event and came out on top as the Champion, defeating Colorado in the Final. Pedram did a fantastic job coaching, developing, and managing the group throughout the entire process and we know that he is looking forward to the opportunity to work with this age group once again. There is no doubt they will be the “team to beat” in Phoenix but we know this National B license coach, with so much experience, will have the girls prepared to take on all challengers that want to beat the top 08 Girls team in the West Region.
Assistant Coach – Troy Putman
A welcome addition to the 2008 Girls staff this upcoming cycle is Coach Troy Putman. Now entering his third year with our ODP program, Troy has worked with a couple of different age groups to help out where needed but having him join Pedram with the 08’s this cycle really takes this group to another level and will help in so many ways. A National D license coach in his own right, Troy has the ability to be both a Head and Assistant Coach in our program, which he has already been both. That flexibility, positive demeanor, and pure desire to help the kids (and program) however he can, makes Troy a big part of our Nevada ODP coaching staff. We know that with both Troy and Pedram overseeing this age group, our 08 Girls are provided with another amazing experience and the best shot to earn another West Region title.
Head Coach – Ali Skogrand
Ali enters her third cycle with our ODP program. We are excited for her to continue to work with this age group, what will be the girls second year overall playing 11 v 11. We know Ali’s coaching experience at the younger age groups, mixed in with her experience coaching the older age groups at the Club level will no doubt be an asset for this age group. As this group continues to get older, the fact that Ali has a total of almost five years of coaching experience at the college level, both at Fresno Pacific University (an NCAA Division 2 program) and the last two years at College of Southern Nevada (local Junior College program) is valuable. On top of that, having played D2 college soccer at Southwest Baptist University in Missouri, sets this National C license coach apart from most. Needless to say, we look forward to another exciting year for the 2007 Girls age group.
Assistant Coach – William “Bill” Doyle
Another new coach to our Nevada ODP program this cycle, we are really looking forward to Bill fitting in right away and joining our coaching staff. A National D license coach who has put a lot of time and effort into his coaching education over the last couple of years, we know Bill is more than ready to be involved. A coach with a great mentality of being willing to work with whatever age group and gender possible, this perspective will serve him well as a coach moving forward. Bill has really solidified himself in the younger age groups of youth soccer and we are excited for him to work directly with Ali to provide a very experienced and enthusiastic staff for the 07 Girls age group. The 07 Girls is a very talented age group and we know Bill will help bring out the best in the entire pool of players.
Head Coach – Eric McDonald
We are super excited to announce that Eric has joined our coaching staff for the upcoming 2020-2021 ODP cycle, as he wanted to get involved and help the program any way possible. A coach with over 20 years of coaching experience at the highest levels of youth soccer, Eric brings a ton of versatility and credibility to our coaching staff and we know that the 06 Girls age group is in a great spot with Eric overseeing the age group. Eric, who holds his National C coaching license, also grew up playing the game at a very high level and was fortunate enough to play overseas during his college and young adult years so his international playing experience provides a much greater and thorough perspective to his coaching skill set. There is no doubt this is going to be an amazing cycle for all of our age groups but we can’t wait for Eric and Ron to get going with the 2006 girls.
Assistant Coach – Ron Paredes
New to our ODP program this upcoming 2020-2021 cycle, Ron brings with him well over a decade of coaching experience to our coaching staff. Currently coaching at a variety of levels and genders in Southern California, Ron has also lived in Hawaii growing up and here in Las Vegas, where he attended and graduated from UNLV. Since his arrival in Southern California a few years back, Ron has coached higher level younger teams on both the Girls and Boys side and currently is on the Girls coaching staff at Saddleback High School. This National C license coach is a fantastic partner to work with Eric and we know the 06 girls are in a fantastic situation this cycle.
Head Coach – Freddy Delgado
We are very excited to announce that Freddy will be returning to our Nevada ODP coaching staff for the upcoming cycle, which will be Freddy’s third year on our staff and second coaching the 2005 Girls age group. By far our most experienced coach on our staff, this National A license coach brings over 20 years of Division 1 and Division 2 college coaching experience to our program. Most notably, Freddy was the Head Coach at two Division 1 programs, the University of Arkansas at Little-Rock (2008-2012) and New Mexico State University (2014-2017). Most recently, Freddy was the top Assistant Coach at Dixie State University from April 2018-July 2019, where the program finished with a 13-6-0 overall record during the Fall 2018 season. It was extremely important to us that Freddy stay involved with the 2005 age group for this upcoming ODP cycle and look to claim the West Championship.
Assistant Coach – McKenzie Karas
We’re excited to announce that McKenzie will be returning for her third season on our ODP coaching staff. McKenzie, who is a Las Vegas native, has done a fantastic job the first two cycles and we know that she will continue to do great things for us this upcoming cycle when she steps in with the 2005 age group. Beyond the coaching experience she has gained throughout the last several years, it’s McKenzie’s playing background that makes her a more complete coach, one who communicates and connects very well with the players she works. McKenzie played Division 1 college soccer at the University of Washington and from there went on to play professionally for the Seattle Reign of the NWSL, then enjoyed a year playing internationally in England as well. It’s these years of playing at such a high level that makes McKenzie the perfect coach for the 2005 age group.
Head Coach – James Manning
We welcome back James for his fourth year on our Nevada ODP coaching staff this upcoming 2020-2021 cycle. This will be James’ first year as a Girls ODP coach and we are so thrilled that he wanted to be involved with the Girls side of our program. For four full seasons, James was on the University of Connecticut Women’s Soccer coaching staff, from Fall 2007-Spring 2011, one of the top D1 programs in the East Region. This experience alone is something that most in the coaching world will never get the chance to be a part of so we want the older Girls in our program to learn and develop under the guidance of James. This National C license coach, who played Division 1 college soccer at Central Connecticut State, brings so much energy and charisma to the field on a daily basis, we can’t wait for James and Adrian to get with our 04 Girls age group this cycle so they can finish out their final year of ODP on a very high note.
Assistant Coach – Adrian Ruelas
Joining James as the Assistant Coach for the 2004 Girls age group is a first time Nevada South ODP coach Adrian Ruelas. We are really looking forward to Adrian joining our coaching staff this upcoming cycle, as he is a young, bright, up and coming coach who has a fantastic perspective on the game. A coach who has been coaching for just under eight years, Adrian currently lives in Southern California where he coaches not only at the youth level but also at the college level. He joined the East L.A. Community College coaching staff as an Assistant Coach in January 2019 and he was also with St. Katherine College as the Director of Soccer Operations for a year (March 2013-March2014). A National D license coach who has goals and aspirations to achieve much more in his coaching career, we know that the 2004 Girls age group has a very good tandem working with them this cycle.
Head Coach – Octavio Posada
Octavio will begin his second season with our program this cycle. A National D license coach, he brings close to 20 years of coaching experience to our staff, both in Las Vegas and in different parts of New York state. Growing up on the East Coast, Octavio played club soccer for a nationally recognized youth soccer club, Blau Weiss Gottschee, then attended and played college soccer at both Ulster County Community College and Long Island University.
Assistant Coach – Miguel Gomez
New to our staff this cycle, Miguel enjoyed a very successful playing career and has spent the last several years developing into a good, young coach. Growing up in Arkansas, Miguel attended and played college soccer at Eastern Oklahoma State College. He was recruited to play for Pachuca FC in 2011 and eventually played 2nd division in Mexico for a couple of different clubs. In addition, Miguel obtained his National D license earlier this year.
Head Coach – Irvin Somera
Now entering his 4th season with our ODP program, we know the time is right for Irvin to move into a Head Coach position. During the 2019-2020 cycle, Irvin was the Assistant Coach for the 2008 Boys age group so we’re confident his promotion to being in charge of this age group will be seamless. Aside from holding a National D coaching license and having years of coaching experience, Irvin was a very accomplished player as well. A Nevada native, having grown up in Reno, Irvin played college soccer at both Peninsula College (1 year) and UNLV for his final 3 years of eligibility.
Assistant Coach – Richard Susainathan
A newcomer to our ODP coaching staff for the upcoming 2020-2021 cycle, Richard brings a wealth of coaching and playing experience to our program. With roughly two decades of coaching experience completed, Richard is another coach on our staff that holds the National D license. Having coached a variety of levels and age groups, Richard brings a ton of versatility to our staff and we are excited that he will be a part of it moving forward. Beyond the coaching experience, Richard also brings a comprehensive international playing background to our staff as well.
Head Coach – Julian Portugal
Julian is entering his 3rd season with our program. He brings so much to any team that he works with, the boys that he coaches learn on a day in, day out basis. An All-Conference, All-Region player while at UNLV, Julian went on to play professionally here in the United States. He was fortunate enough to play a significant role with Las Vegas Lights FC during their inaugural season while establishing himself as a fan favorite. Since stepping off the field as a player, Julian has continued to develop into a very good coach, one that now holds the National D license. We can’t wait for Julian to begin working with this exceptionally talented age group for Nevada!
Assistant Coach – Grant Watson
Head Coach – Andy Coverstone
Andy returns for his second season with our ODP program. A coach with tremendous knowledge and grasp on the game, we are looking forward to Andy working once again with the 06 Boys age group this upcoming cycle. Having already earned his National C coaching license, Andy is a perfect fit for our coaching staff, we know that his future in the profession continues to be very bright and there is no doubt that his experiences as a player are a great resource for him as a coach. Growing up in the greater St. Louis, Missouri area, which is nationally recognized as a soccer hotbed in this country, Andy not only played at a very high level during his youth but he enjoyed a stellar collegiate playing career at quality Division 2 program Bellarmine University, located in Louisville, Kentucky, where he earned All-Region All American honors.
Assistant Coach – Colin Tabor
We are so pleased to announce that Colin will be joining our coaching staff for this upcoming 2020-2021 ODP cycle. Colin has already accomplished a lot throughout his relatively young coaching career but the levels he has been involved have been significant. Colin has been fortunate enough to be heavily involved with the USL Pro team, Reno 1868 FC, in a variety of roles since their inception, as well as spending the better part of 5 years coaching at a very high level of youth, club soccer. Colin has already earned his National C coaching license, pointing to the fact that he not only has a bright future but wants to keep going and impact the youth player any way he can. Needless to say, we can’t wait for this staff of Colin and Andy to get going for the upcoming cycle with the 06 Boys age group, as we know they will bring the right attitude, energy, and spirit to all they do.
Head Coach – Tommy Tate
We are so excited to welcome Tommy back to our ODP program for this upcoming 2020-2021 cycle. One of the most experienced coaches in not only Nevada but in all of Region IV, we know that the 2005 Boys age group is in great hands with this former Division 1 College and Professional soccer player. A National A licensed coach, many don’t know that Tommy is not only able to claim collegiate (D1) and club coaching experience on his resume but also US Women’s National Team coaching experience as well in two different stints (from 2002-2005 with the U-15 and U-17 teams and from 2009-2010 with the U-23 team and the Full National Team). Needless to say, it’s great Tommy wanted to be back involved and we look forward to having him on our staff moving forward.
Assistant Coach – Oscar Velazquez
Oscar will be entering his 2nd year with our staff on a full-time basis, his 3rd cycle that he has been a part of overall. This staff for our 05 Boys is fantastic, with a combination of experience and enthusiasm, to go along with an amazing perspective for the boys from two coaches who played the game at a very high level as well. Oscar had a very distinguished playing career at UNLV and he has applied all that he learned as a player, into his style of coaching. He is currently in pursuit of the National D coaching license and will have earned it by the time the 2020-2021 cycle is over. We know Oscar works very well with the older players, he is currently one of the Assistant Coaches with the College of Southern Nevada Men’s Soccer program and he is looking forward to working with and coaching this age group this cycle.
Head Coach – Camilo Valencia
Entering his second season with our ODP program this upcoming 2020-2021 cycle, Camilo will once again be overseeing the 04 Boys age group. A National B license coach, Camilo brings a wealth of experience, both as a coach and as a player to our program and we are beyond excited that he will be on our staff once again. Currently an Assistant Coach with the UNLV Men’s Soccer program, since 2017, Camilo has held a variety of roles as a coach over the past decade, including being on the ODP Region IV staff since the summer of 2019. Prior to embarking on his coaching career, Camilo was fortunate enough to play at a very high level in his native Columbia, including a stint with the U-20 National Team in 2003. Upon his arrival in the U.S., Camilo began his collegiate career at Yavapai College, where he won a Junior College National Championship in 2007, before becoming an impactful D1 player at UNLV.
Assistant Coach – Jose Gomez
Also returning for his second season with our ODP program this upcoming 2020-2021 cycle, while also once again working together with Camilo with the 04 Boys age group, we are thrilled to announce that Jose will be on our staff this cycle. The coaching combination of Jose and Camilo enjoyed a tremendous amount of success during the 2019-2020 cycle with the 04 Boys, with the two coaches creating an amazing environment for the boys to develop and compete at an extremely high level. Jose brings an extensive amount of coaching experience to our staff and the National D license coach also provides a ton of professionalism to our staff that all of our coaches can and do feed off of.
